Well, bad news . . . You’re WASTING coffee’s full energy potential by drinking it first thing in the morning.
Research shows drinking a cup of coffee first thing in the morning blunts the energy-boosting effects of caffeine and may lead to increased tolerance of the stimulant.
Coffee blogger Ryoko Iwata looked at some research (by Steven Miller, Ph.D) and says the peak production of cortisol — which makes us feel awake and alert — occurs between 8 and 9 AM (under normal circumstances).
This means that at the time that many people are having their first cup of coffee on the way to work, their bodies are actually “naturally caffeinating” the most effectively.
… When’s the best time to consume coffee? Iwata says there are times throughout the day when cortisol levels have dropped. The first drop happens between 9:30 and 11:30 AM.
