Special counsel ROBERT MUELLER finally concluded and sent his report to Attorney General BILL BARR on Friday. And it says that PRESIDENT TRUMP did NOT collude with Russia.
The report hasn’t been released yet, but Barr issued a statement yesterday on its findings, saying that neither the Trump campaign nor anyone associated with it conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 election.
The report also didn’t include any further indictments.
Trump took this as a massive victory, Tweeting, quote, “No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!”
He also suggested that someone should now investigate “the other side.” Meaning the people responsible for starting the investigation, which the President has claimed was a WITCH HUNT from the start.
But the report on Trump wasn’t 100% squeaky clean. On the issue of obstruction of justice, Mueller did NOT conclude that Trump committed a crime, but he also didn’t exonerate the president.
It’s not clear at this time what that means, but Mueller basically left the decision to prosecute up to Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and they decided there wasn’t enough evidence.
Democrats have already jumped on that. They want to know exactly why Mueller felt he couldn’t exonerate Trump on obstruction.
They’re calling for the full report to be released, and they plan to call Barr to testify before Congress. They might even subpoena Mueller himself.
Barr says he plans to release as much of the Mueller report as he is legally allowed. One thing he can’t release is any information regarding ongoing investigations involving Trump or his associates.
Trump has been saying that the full report SHOULD be made public. So if he changes his mind now, that’ll seem kind of shady.
Over the course of the nearly two-year investigation, charges have been filed against 37 defendants . . . including six Trump associates and 26 Russians.
Seven have pleaded guilty, including former Trump campaigns chairman Paul Manafort, who’s already been convicted, even though his crimes have nothing to do with “Russian collusion.”
